Sonu Nigam Reveals Favourite Song From His Discography: ‘Marks A Very Important Milestone In My Life…’ (Exclusive)
Sonu Nigam is celebrating his big day today, as he turns a year older. Nigam is one the most prolific singers of his generation and has sung songs in over 10 Indian regional languages like Hind, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Odia, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Malayalam, Nepali, Tulu, Chhattisgarhi, Meitei. The singer sat down for a chat with Mashable India and shared how he celebrates his birthday and also shared how his journey in the industry has been.
During the chat, Nigam also spoke about the growing use of artificial industry in the music industry and shared that he is all for it and would embrace it. Read our full chat with Sonu Nigam here.
1. Are birthdays important for you? How do you celebrate it usually?
I love my birthdays.. It’s such a catch 22 situation.. I want them every day, I love the feeling of being pampered by everyone, the joy within makes me rejoice the day to the fullest, but then that also means I age faster.. But jokes apart I treat then with a lot of reverence. To be born as Sonu, has been the most beautiful event of my life and yes I celebrate it, internally and outwardly both.
2. You have been singing since the age of 4, now you’ll be turning 51, can you describe your journey in a few words.
My journey has been nothing short of blissful. I wouldn’t wanna trade it for anything else or be anyone else. I bow my head down in gratitude to the Cosmos for granting me this life and this magnificent journey.
3. What is your most favourite song from your entire discography?
One of my most favorite songs is Abhi mujhme kahin. It just marks a very important milestone in my life where I was going through a lot emotionally and professionally.
4. Artificial intelligence is taking over creative pursuits as well. How do you feel about AI-generated songs and people recreating the voice of greats like Rafi sahab?
Technology will always keep springing newer surprises for us. Either we show our backs to it like a pessimist, or embrace it like optimists. I am an eternal optimist.
5. Who are new artists that have caught your fancy? Or you think are underrated?
There are a lot of wonderful new talents. Vishal Mishra, Shreyas Puranik, Tushar Joshi, Raghav Chaitanya, Amit Prakash Mishra and so many more.
6. How important is it for you to interact with your fans, and how do you usually engage with them?
I never use the word Fan or Fans. It’s too pompous for me. I treat them like my extended family who love and protect me, bless me and inspire me. I also keep a balance while interacting with them. I make sure I don’t over indulge.
