Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja Has Chinese Audience In Tears; Clip From Theatre Goes Viral
A video from China has recently surfaced on X, showing how the south film Maharaja had the Chinese audience in tears after watching Vijay Sethupathi. The footage from theatres in China features the audience reacting so scenes from the film. While some were seen cheering on a happy scene others were seen on the crying emotional scenes from the film.

The clip shared by X account Gabbar Singh, captioned the video as “Somehow Father-daughter Indian movies do really well in China. Dangal, Singing Superstar and now Maharaja.” For the unversed, Maharaja also released to positive reviews from fans and critics. The film was also well received with its OTT release on Netflix and was discovered by a variety of audience making it a fan favourite around the nation.
The film follows the story of a father seeking justice for his daughter who was assaulted by a bunch of thieves. Led by Vijay alongside Anurag Kashyap the film has be highly praised for the performances of both actors. While Vijay plays the father seeking justice, Kashyap plays the role of the leader of a thieving gang.

Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja also made waves at the Chinese box office grossing an impressive Rs 40.75 crore in just one week. The film is now the highest-grossing Indian film in China since 2018.
