Kantara Chapter 1: Makers Of Rishab Shetty’s Film Sell Digital Rights For Rs 125 Crore
The prequel of Rishab Shetty’s blockbuster 2022 film Kantara, titled Kantara Chapter 1, has generated quite a buzz on social media. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the much-awaited film. Directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 will reportedly explore the mythological roots of the Bhuta Kola tradition in coastal Karnataka. As the release date nears, a new report about its digital streaming rights has emerged.
Quoting a report by Pinkvilla, News18 reports that the makers of the movie have sold the digital streaming rights of Kantara Chapter 1 to Amazon Prime Video for a whopping price of Rs 125 crore. The figure, reportedly, ranks the film as one of the highest-grossing Kannada-origin digital rights deals, just before the pan-Indian hit KGF 2.

The media publication quotes the entertainment portal’s source saying, “Amazon Prime has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of Kantara: Chapter 1 for a hefty sum of Rs 125 crore. It’s among the highest of all time for a film of Kannada origin, certainly the second best after KGF 2. The platform has bagged all language streaming rights.”
Scheduled to release on October 2, 2025, Kantara Chapter 1’s official trailer is expected to be unveiled on September 20. The media publication’s source adds, “Work is going on in full swing for the theatrical trailer of Kantara: Chapter 1. The idea is to create the noise with a single asset, and continue the momentum towards the theatrical release on Gandhi Jayanti. The film will see a North India release by Anil Thadani under his banner AA Films.”

On the other hand, according to another report by Bollywood Hungama, Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh will be recording a song for the movie. Being touted as one of the biggest pan-India collaborations of the year, the source quoted by News18 adds, “The idea behind the move is to increase the reach of the film even further in north India. The song is going to be keenly awaited one once the news comes out.”
