Aamir Khan Reacts To Box Office Failure Of Son Junaid’s Loveyapa: ‘I Was Ten Times More Stressed For My…’

Recently, Bollywood icon Aamir Khan opened up about the disappointing performance of his son Junaid Khan’s debut theatrical film, Loveyapa, which hit theaters on 7 February 2025. The romantic comedy, starring Junaid alongside Khushi Kapoor, failed to win over audiences at the box office, leaving Aamir grappling with mixed emotions. Speaking at the ABP Network’s Ideas of India Summit 2025, the actor reflected on the film’s outcome and his personal experience as a father watching his son’s big moment unfold.

In a candid interview with ABP News, Aamir didn’t hide his sadness. “Nahi chali woh film unfortunately. Toh mujhe uska bhi bada dukh hai,” he said. Despite the letdown, he stood by the movie’s quality, adding, “Mujhe laga film achi hai aur Junaid ne bhi accha kaam kiya hai lekin woh film nahi chali.” The film, a remake of the Tamil hit Love Today, follows a young couple navigating love and trust after swapping phones, but it only earned about Rs. 12 crore, far below expectations for a star kid debut.

Aamir admitted the failure hit him harder than his own projects. “As a father, I was ten times more stressed because of my son’s film. Two weeks before its release, I kept wondering, ‘Why am I so stressed about the film? It isn’t my film – I haven’t acted in it, produced it, or directed it.’ But still, I was anxious,” he shared. He described the release as a pivotal moment, saying, “I felt this is the most important moment of my life. This is the emotion of a father. I don’t know how to explain it.” The 59-year-old star, known for hits like 3 Idiots, revealed his heart was racing as he watched from the sidelines.

Despite the setback, Aamir remains hopeful for Junaid’s future. “Junaid will grow and learn,” he said, emphasizing the ups and downs of the film industry: “But I think this is a field where you have to face success and failure.”

He also shared an exciting update – Junaid has already finished another project with Aamir Khan Productions, a romantic film co-starring Sai Pallavi, slated for release in November or December 2025.

Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa marked Junaid’s first big-screen outing after his OTT debut in Maharaj, while Khushi, daughter of the late Sridevi, stepped up from her role in The Archies. Though the film didn’t click commercially, Aamir’s support for his son shines through as Junaid gears up for his next shot at stardom.
