Akshay Kumar On Jaya Bachchan’s ‘Ye Koi Naam Hai’ Remark About Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Says ‘Maine Koi Galat…’
Akshay Kumar responded to Jaya Bachchan’s comment about Toilet: Ek Prem Katha during the press meet for Kesari: Chapter 2 in Mumbai. When a journalist informed him that Jaya Bachchan had expressed disapproval of the film’s title, Akshay stated, “If she has said so, she is right. If I had made a mistake by making such a film, she might be right.”
For those unaware, at the recent India TV Conclave, Jaya Bachchan raised concerns about the title of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and even labeled it a “flop.” She remarked, “Just look at the title of the film; I would never go to watch a film with such a name. Yeh, koi naam hai? (Is that really a name?)”
Turning to the audience, she asked if they would be comfortable watching a film with such a title. When only a few hands were raised, she quipped, “Among so many people, hardly four people want to watch the film; it’s very sad. Yeh toh flop hai. (It is a flop.)”
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is an unconventional love story with a powerful social message. It centers on Keshav (Akshay Kumar), a small-town man who marries Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar). After their wedding, Jaya leaves Keshav’s home upon discovering it lacks a toilet. The story follows Keshav’s struggle against deep-rooted traditions and his family’s stubborn mindset to build a toilet and win back his wife. Alongside Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, the film features Anupam Kher, Divyenndu, Sudhir Pandey, and Ayesha Raza Mishra in significant roles.
Regarding Akshay Kumar’s upcoming project, Kesari: Chapter 2 is based on Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat’s book The Case That Shook The Empire. The film explores the untold story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the pursuit of justice led by C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer and former President of the Indian National Congress. It is slated for release on 18 April 2025.
