Guru Randhawa Shares A Cryptic Note Amid Sexualizing School Girls Controversy; Writes, ‘When God Is With You…’

Singer Guru Randhawa enjoys a huge fan base. Netizens eagerly wait for him to release his tracks. He recently found himself in the midst of a controversy after the release of his latest song, Azul. The song has been receiving flak for sexualising schoolgirls and comparing them to different forms of alcohol. Amidst the backlash, while he hasn’t issued a statement on the controversy and backlash, the singer shared cryptic notes on his official social media handle.

Taking to his Instagram account, he posted a note expressing how he always tried to keep other people happy, which left him feeling sad. However, now that he is doing things that make him happy, other people are sad. He wrote on his story in Punjabi, “When I tried making everyone happy, I was sad. Today, when I am happy, everyone else is sad. God (heart emoji).” He shared the story in the wee hours of Saturday.

In another story, sharing a screenshot of his song’s ratings, he wrote, “Azul is Azuling (wine glass emojis). When God is with you, you only move forward (red heart emoji).”

For those of you who don’t know, in the music video, Guru is seen playing a photographer who visits an all-girls school for their class photograph. Impressed by them, he sexualises them through the song by comparing them to different alcohol brands. The video beings with the warning, “This video is highly addictive.”

Netizens and many women called out Guru Randhawa for his “problematic” depiction of a young girl and making the video into a “sexualised, pornographic and problematic fantasy.” They expressed how it only promotes the idea of harassment and sexualisation of minors.
