Hansika Motwani To Face Trial In Cruelty Case Lodged By Ex-Sister-In-Law As Bombay HC Dismisses Her Plea

Actor Hansika Motwani will face trial after the Bombay High Court rejected her request to dismiss a cruelty complaint filed by her former sister-in-law, Nancy James. The case, now moving to trial, involves serious accusations against Hansika and her mother, Jyotika Motwani.

Nancy James, previously married to Hansika’s brother, Prashant Motwani, claims that Hansika and her mother harassed and mistreated her during her marriage. According to Hindustan Times, an FIR was filed under several sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita: Section 498A (dowry-related cruelty), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 352 (criminal intimidation and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace). These charges have set the stage for a full trial.

Nancy, who married Prashant Motwani in March 2021, alleges she faced ongoing domestic violence during her marriage. She claims her in-laws repeatedly demanded money and expensive gifts, which humiliated her. She also says she was pressured to sell her flat. Nancy further states that the alleged abuse harmed her health, causing Bell’s Palsy. A source told a media outlet, “Nancy and Prashant Motwani, Hansika’s brother, had a lavish wedding ceremony in March 2021. However, their marriage was strained from the start. A year later, the two started living separately.”

In February 2025, Hansika and her mother received anticipatory bail from the Mumbai Sessions Court, protecting them from arrest. However, Hansika later asked the Bombay High Court to cancel the FIR, but the court denied her request. Now, both Hansika and her mother will face trial. Meanwhile, reports suggest Hansika is also dealing with personal challenges, including difficulties in her marriage to businessman Sohael Khaturiya, according to media outlets.
