Sonali Bendre Reacts To Fan Dying By Suicide After Failing To Meet Her: ‘How Can People…’

Some time ago, reports were going around claiming that a fan died by suicide after failing to meet Bollywood actor Sonali Bendre when she was in Bhopal back in the 90s. While such a report wasn’t ever a hundred percent confirmed, recently Sonali Bendre spoke about it and expressed her feelings about hearing the news for the first time.

Sonali Bendre was recently a guest on film critic Mayank Shekhar’s Mid-Day podcast called The Bombay Film Podcast. While she was appearing on the podcast, Sonali Bendre was asked about her thoughts regarding the reports of a fan dying by suicide after failing to meet her. Sonali Bendre said that she doesn’t understand such crazy fan culture and expressed her disappointment about the entire incident.

Reacting with disbelief, she said, “Yeh sach hai? How can someone…” When asked about witnessing any other crazy acts by a fan, she said, “There’d be fan mails (written in blood). We wondered if it was in actual blood. I’d be shattered if it was. Best to appreciate and leave it at that. How can people place humans on such a pedestal from which they’ll fall anyway?”

Speaking further about rampant fan culture and crazy obsession with Bollywood stars, Sonali Bendre said, “I couldn’t understand that kind of obsession for somebody.” She said she cannot understand how someone can put another human on a pedestal. She said that a person will eventually always fall off the pedestal, which is why she ‘could never put somebody up on a pedestal to that extent.’

For those who didn’t know, Sonali Bendre was a teenager when she began modeling. She starred in several advertisements before venturing into Bollywood. She is known for starring in movies like Diljale, Duplicate, Major Saab, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Sarfarosh, and Hum Saath Saath Hain.
